NOSORH Grant Writing Institute

Since 2010, the NOSORH Grant Writing Institute (GWI) has helped rural health professionals strengthen their grant writing skills and develop more competitive proposals. As the needs of rural communities and funding opportunities continue to evolve, so has GWI. We’re excited to introduce the next chapter of the Institute — a new, structured, multi-level learning pathway designed to meet participants where they are and help build skills and confidence step by step.

Level I: Fundamentals of Rural Grant Writing
Available Now On-Demand

Fundamentals of Rural Grant Writing is a three-part, on-demand series covering core grant writing terminology, concept development, and strategies for identifying rural health funding opportunities. This level is designed for individuals who are brand-new to grant writing or who have not written a grant in several years.

Level II: Developing Competitive Grant Proposals
First Live Cohort Runs from July 7-30

Developing Competitive Grant Proposals is a live, interactive series focused on applying and strengthening the foundational skills introduced in Level I. Across six sessions, participants will develop key proposal components, including logic models, work plans, evaluation plans, budgets, and proposal narratives, while learning strategies to improve proposal alignment, clarity, and competitiveness.

Note: Participants are strongly encouraged to complete Level I before enrolling in Level II, as the live sessions build on concepts introduced in Level I.

This updated format provides greater flexibility while creating more opportunities for participants to build practical skills at each stage of the grant writing process. The content applies across all grant types — foundation, state, and federal — making the series relevant no matter where your organization seeks funding.
