The 10th annual National Rural Health Day (NRHD) was celebrated on November 19, 2020, with a record number of nationwide events held by State Offices of Rural Health, rural partners, communities, providers and other stakeholders! The official NRHD hashtag -#PowerofRural- had over 13 million impressions on November 19 while the week of NRHD saw over 68 million impressions (compared to 19.8 million the week of NRHD 2019)!

If you haven’t already, be sure to set aside some time to read the inspiring stories featured in the 2020 Community Stars e-book. This year’s book (also available for purchase in a hard copy format) tells the stories of individuals/organizations from 48 different states who are tirelessly dedicated to improving health in their rural community. A big thank you to all who took the time to nominate a deserving rural hero.

NOSORH was honored to collaborate with numerous partner organizations to celebrate the “Power of Rural”. Featured activities included a weeklong lineup of events hosted by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy and other national agencies/organizations. The Rural Medical Education (RME) Collaborative partnered with NOSORH for the second year in a row to host a free online CME event for rural primary care clinicians. The event welcomed 533 unique learners throughout the day and awarded 2,080 CME/CE certificates.

NOSORH also hosted the live web event The Power of Rural is 100% Community with close to 300 live participants. The event recording can be found here. If you would like to explore how to start a 100% Community Initiative in your rural county, please click here. Additionally, NOSORH and the RHIhub co-hosted the Twitter chat “Examining Social Determinants of Health in Rural America” with special guests from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Hospital Association, and many other organizations. As always, NOSORH appreciates the support and engagement of nationwide partners and the 50 State Offices of Rural Health! Your support helps NRHD reach new audiences, create new partnerships and bring broader national attention/awareness to the incredible work happening in rural and underserved areas. Together, we can keep the Power of Rural momentum going! Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 18, 2021, and join NOSORH for the 11th annual National Rural Health Day.
