NOSORH committees are great focal points for engaging in many NOSORH initiatives.  Descriptions of all committees and contact information can be found on the NOSORH website.

Communications – The Communications Committee is planning an earlier launch of activities for this year’s National Rural Health Day celebration on November 17. A NRHD kickoff webinar is being planned for May 25th and the current NRHD website ( will soon be moved to the NOSORH website. Be on the lookout for new resources and activities as the website is updated. If you’re interested in joining this committee, please contact committee co-chair Karen Madden.

Development – The Development Committee continued their focus on promotional materials for the 25th Anniversary of many SORH that takes place this year, including a logo and video template. Discussion also continued about NOSORH’s sponsor base for the Annual Meeting.

Educational Exchange Committee – The Educational Exchange committee reviewed the results of the most recent Travel Scholarship/Mentoring survey and will be using those results to implement some programmatic changes to make it more accessible for all NOSORH members. Over 80 SORH staff responded to the survey results can be accessed here. The committee reviewed the strategic plan moving into the new year, upcoming webinars, and future opportunities for growth. The committee appreciates the great interest SORH expressed in the survey and would like to welcome a large number of new members who will begin serving on the committee at the next regularly scheduled meeting on May 16th at 4:00 pm ET. If you would like to join the EE Committee please contact Natalie Claiborne or Alisa Druzba.

Flex Committee – The Flex Committee held a robust discussion around the data reporting of CAHs, identifying barriers and utilizing the committee call to formulate a unified approach to addressing these barriers. Future committee meetings will include state sharing of strategies they are using to address barriers in their state related to reporting requirements. FORHP has asked Flex Coordinators that notice their CAH’s outpatient data isn’t showing up in Hospital Compare to notify their Project Officers. Additional education from TASC and other partners is being developed from feedback received from the Flex committee.

JCREC – The Joint Committee on Rural Emergency Care has finalized plans for the Rural EMS conference and will review the partnership’s work plan in preparation for the coming year’s activities.

PPMT – The leadership of the Policy Program Monitoring Team and Policy Chairs recently met to identify opportunities to improve communication and collaboration.  Future work will be to focus on analyzing impact of readmission penalties on rural hospitals and planning for educational session at the NOSORH annual meeting in Boston and helping SORH to understand the work of Insurance Commissioners.
