NOSORH committees are great focal points for engaging in many NOSORH initiatives.  Descriptions of all committees and contact information can be found on the NOSORH website.

NOSORH Board- – At the NOSORH Board meeting on May 21st, external auditors, Maner and Costerian, reported that the results of the audit are “as good as you can get.” The Board expressed appreciation to Donna Pfaendtner, NOSORH Administrator, for excellent implementation of all NOSORH financial matters. The Board also approved a request to sign on to a letter to the JCAHO to consider the needs of small rural facilities in regards to protocols for Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Centers Certification.

Policy Program Monitoring Team (PPMT) – A series of webinars were offered last month to support SORHs and their partners in considering the role states have in addressing policies that can increase access and ensure coverage for rural communities and providers.  The webinars were widely attended. If you were unable to attend, the supporting materials and recorded webinars are available on the NOSORH Webinars page.  NOSORH has also submitted information to CMS for consideration on Direct Purchase Contract to urge consideration for rural Medicaid as well as Medicare populations.

Communications- The Communications Committee planned a NRHD Key Message virtual discussion for the NOSORH Board and committee members. A timeline for 2018 National Rural Health Day activities was discussed.

Flex- The May meeting of the Flex Committee included a brief presentation from SigmaMed. They teach Lean Six-Sigma strategies to small rural hospitals through several in-depth programs working both on-site and virtually. SigmaMed has worked with several states and talked specifically about their partnership with the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health. The Committee also discussed the CMS clarification on the CAH distance requirement. This issue is quickly becoming a hot-button topic, especially for those CAHs that wish to move and/or relocate certain out-patient services. These two topics remain active on the Committee agenda.

JCREC- This month the JCREC noted the successes of the National Rural EMS & Care Conference, discussed the release of the upcoming NRHA Policy Paper on rural EMS, and talked about how many SORHs are adding expanded EMS work to their Flex activities.
